Video Ad Examples for Apps, Taken Apart Second by Second

Here are five video ads made for apps, each taken apart second by second. All five share one pattern: a line about the viewer first, the app's screens as the proof, then one offer and one ask.

Video ad examples

In short

  • The first second says something about the viewer: a want, a doubt or a question. TikTok's advice is to introduce what you offer "in the first 3 seconds".1
  • The middle shows the app doing it: its real screens, not a description of them.
  • The last seconds give one offer and one ask: download, play or try it free. Google's checklist ends the same way: "Ask them to take action."2 10xvid made all five from the apps' own links, and your first ad is free.3

What do good app video ads have in common?

They spend each second on one job. In the five below, the jobs come in nearly the same order:

  1. A line about the viewer, on screen in the first second.
  2. The turn: why the old way fails, or what the app does instead.
  3. The proof: the app's own screen doing what the first line promised.
  4. The offer: the free plan, the trial or the price.
  5. One ask, with the app's name on screen.

Platforms describe the same shape. TikTok asks you to "Prioritize your hook in the first 6 seconds".1 Google's four ABCDs are Attention, Branding, Connection and Direction: "Hook and sustain attention", "Brand early, often, and richly", "Help people think or feel something", "Ask them to take action".2

The five films play on the 10xvid home page. They are not case studies: this shows what each one does on screen, not how it performed. Typally, Perla and Agent Games are apps made by 10xvid's founder.

What does Typally's ad do in 15 seconds?

  • 1.5 to 7.5 s: the proof. The sentence lands in Slack, then Gmail, then ChatGPT, then all three at once.
  • 10 s: the offer, "100 minutes", in the same large type as the first word.
  • 14.6 s: the offer in full, "Free plan: 100 minutes a month, no card", and one ask, "Download for Mac", under the app's name.
The whole ad: 15 seconds, 9:16, every word set as type. It plays muted here.

  • 14.6 s: the offer and the ask, "Your first ad, free" and "Make my first ad".

How do you make an ad like these?

Write the five jobs down before any tool is open: the line about the viewer, the turn, the proof screen, the offer and the ask. If you cannot fill one in, the ad is not ready.

With 10xvid, paste your App Store link or your website into the chat. It reads your site and writes a blueprint: who the ad is for, the story in order, why they act, how it looks. Change any part, or say it in the chat, then press Produce for 9:16, 1:1 and 16:9.3

Want a person to say the first line? The UGC style has a generated person who could be your user say the hook to their phone. Then your app takes over under their voice.3

Where 10xvid fits

10xvid, motion graphics ads for apps, made all five of these from the apps' own links. Each film is read frame by frame and judged at 8 of 10 before anyone sees it.3 For the steps in order, see how to make video ads with AI.
