SaaS Video Ads: How to Advertise Software With Short Video
A SaaS video ad shows your software doing its job in 15 to 30 seconds. Then it asks for one next step: a trial, a sign-up or a demo. LinkedIn, Meta and Google each let a video ad collect that step, in different ways.123
SaaS video adsIn short
- LinkedIn: Lead Gen Forms attach to video ads, and 15 to 30 seconds qualifies for every placement.14
- Meta: a lead ad can be a video that opens a form, and "Start trial" is one of its standard events.25
- Google: video campaigns can optimize for sign-ups; lead forms belong to Search and Performance Max.36
- What to show: the product at work. Meta's B2B guide: "Convey the main message (Brand, plus Benefit) within those critical first 1-2 seconds".7
What is a SaaS video ad?
A short paid video that sells software. It runs in feeds and before videos, to people who are not looking for you yet. It has to show what the software changes for them before they scroll on.
It is not an explainer. An explainer walks a visitor through a product on your site; an ad earns the next click in a few seconds. Google's B2B page puts video's strength in the middle of the funnel: "Video ads can fit into all stages of the B2B marketing funnel, but they are particularly effective at the consideration stage."8
Where should a SaaS company run video ads?
Where the next step can be taken without leaving the ad, or with one tap:
| Network | How a video ad collects the next step | What to count |
|---|---|---|
| A Lead Gen Form attached to the video ad1 | Leads from the form | |
| Meta | A lead ad: a video that opens an Instant Form2 | Lead, or the "Start trial" standard event5 |
| A video campaign optimized for conversions such as "Sign up"39 | Sign-ups on your site |
Google's lead forms are another route, but on other campaign types: "You can add lead forms to Search and Performance Max campaigns."6 Its Display & Video 360 help is plain: "Lead forms are not supported in Demand Gen line items."10
Google also reports how software buyers watch: "70% of mid-sized B2B buyers say they watch product videos on their mobile devices when researching new software solutions for their company." Its source is a Google and Suzy survey of 861 US decision-makers, April 2024.11
What should a SaaS video ad show?
The product at work, at the moment it pays off. Google's ABCDs have a line for ads that ask for action: "Make the product the ad".12 Its B2B page adds: "Provide free trials, demos, or testimonials to help potential customers see the value of your products or services."8
Name the benefit, not the category. Meta's B2B creative guide warns that "Grow your business" is not a benefit.7 Show the screen where the result appears, and say what changed.

We are software too, so the examples here are ours. Each of the four ads above has one idea: the point, the promise, the how, the claim.
How long should a SaaS video ad be?
Short. LinkedIn recommends 15 to 30 seconds, "so they can qualify for all possible placements".4 Google's tip for video campaigns: "if your ad can convey the same message in 20 seconds than in 30, consider editing a shorter version."13
A longer demo still has a place, for people who already clicked. The ad's job is to get them there.
How should a SaaS video ad start and end?
Start on the problem or the result. Google's advice for video conversions: "Captivate people in the first 5-10 seconds of the ad with a problem statement and show how your product or service solves it."3 LinkedIn's: "Show the most impactful content in the first 10 seconds of your video".14
End on one ask, seen and heard. Google: "Echo the call-to-action in the voiceover or include it in superimposed graphics."3 On LinkedIn, keep the form short: "Choose three to four fields to use on your Lead Gen Form."1
Here is our own landscape ad, opening on the promise and ending on the ask:
How do you make a SaaS video ad from your product?
Plan it in this order, then make each shape:
- One sentence of value: after this ad, the viewer understands that ___.
- The screen that proves it: the moment your product shows the result.
- The first line, on screen in the first seconds.
- The ask that matches the network's next step: a trial, a form, a demo.
- Each shape: 16:9 and 1:1 for LinkedIn and YouTube, 9:16 for Stories and Reels.
With 10xvid, paste your website into the chat. It reads your site and writes a blueprint: who the ad is for, the story in order, why they act, how it looks. Press Produce for 9:16, 1:1 and 16:9, from 5 to 30 seconds.15
Where 10xvid fits
10xvid, motion graphics ads for apps, makes these films for software products too, from your site's own screens. Motion V1 reads each film frame by frame and judges it at 8 of 10 before you see it; Motion V1 Flash makes one in about five minutes.15 For LinkedIn's specs in full, see LinkedIn video ads.
