LinkedIn Video Ads: Examples, Specs and One for Your SaaS
A LinkedIn video ad is a video that plays in the LinkedIn feed, muted, to the people your campaign targets. LinkedIn recommends 15 to 30 seconds, and its tips say to show what matters in the first 10 seconds.12
LinkedIn video adsIn short
- Specs: MP4, up to 500 MB, 3 seconds to 30 minutes, in 16:9, 1:1, 4:5 or 9:16.3
- Length: 15 to 30 seconds qualifies for every placement in the feed and the Audience Network.1
- Sound off: the video autoplays "with the sound muted by default", so the words belong on screen.4
- For software: there is no app install objective; video ads serve awareness, views, visits, engagement, leads and conversions.5
What are the specs for a LinkedIn video ad?
These are LinkedIn's own numbers, from its specs page and its help pages:31
- File: MP4, between 75 KB and 500 MB, H.264 or VP8, sound in AAC or MPEG4.
- Length: 3 seconds to 30 minutes. In-stream ads on the Audience Network run up to 90 seconds.
- Shapes: 16:9, 1:1, 4:5 and 9:16. The help page marks 4:5 as its recommended vertical ratio.
- Words: a headline of 70 characters and intro text of 150 before LinkedIn cuts them.
- Captions: an SRT file. "Only English video captions are currently supported."6
- Buttons: Apply, Download, View Quote, Learn More, Sign Up, Subscribe, Register, Join, Attend and Request Demo.

One more rule shapes a short ad: "Videos under 30 seconds will loop until there are at least 30 seconds of playback."1 A 15 second ad plays twice, so its last frame should lead back into its first.
How long should a LinkedIn video ad be?
Short. LinkedIn's help page recommends "videos that are 15-30 seconds long, so they can qualify for all possible placements across the LinkedIn Feed and the Audience Network".1 Its tips go shorter: 7 to 15 second videos see "up to a 300% lift in completion rates", from LinkedIn's own data of 2025.2
Longer videos still run. The specs allow up to 30 minutes, and a demo for people already in your funnel can take more time.3
What do LinkedIn's own tips say works?
Three things, each from LinkedIn's tips page:2
- The point first. "Show what you want your audience to see in the first 10 seconds of the video."
- Made for sound off. "Think like a silent film director: a large portion of LinkedIn members will watch your ad with the sound off." It adds: "Consider burning in video subtitles."
- Short. The completion figure above.
LinkedIn counts a view as "two or more continuous seconds of playback while the video is at least 50 percent on screen".7 So the first two seconds decide whether the ad is counted as seen at all.
What does a LinkedIn video ad for software look like?
Here is one in landscape, 16:9. It is 10xvid's own product, presented by the engine that makes the ads.
Taken apart, it does what LinkedIn's tips ask:
- The first seconds show the claim, "Paste one link", typed into a link box, before any logo.
- The middle shows the product working: a clock running to five minutes and a finished ad coming out with its voice and music.
- Every line is on screen, so it reads with the sound off.
- The end is one ask with the offer: the first ad free, with no card.
For more ads taken apart second by second, see video ad examples for apps.
Which objective should a SaaS company pick?
The one that matches the next step you want. LinkedIn lists these objectives for video ads: brand awareness, video views, website visits, engagement, lead generation and website conversions.5 Lead generation is "Not eligible for LinkedIn Audience Network video placements".5
For a trial or a demo request, lead generation keeps people on LinkedIn: a form opens over the ad, and "There is no additional cost for LinkedIn Lead Gen Forms".8 LinkedIn lists no app install objective, so an app sends people to its site or store page with website visits.5
What does a LinkedIn video ad cost to start?
LinkedIn's floor is low: "The minimum daily budget amount required to start on LinkedIn is $10, for any ad format."9 You choose maximum delivery, cost cap or manual bidding, and maximum delivery is charged by impressions.10
What a click or a lead then costs depends on your audience and your bids. LinkedIn's pages give no average.
How do you make a LinkedIn video ad for your SaaS?
Plan it in the order LinkedIn's tips give, then make the shapes:
- Write the first line. What the viewer gets, in words they would use, on screen in the first seconds.
- Pick the proof. The screen of your product where the result appears.
- Write every line as type, so the ad works muted.
- End on one ask that matches the objective: Request Demo, Sign Up or Learn More.
- Make 16:9 and 1:1, and a vertical one, so the feed and phones each get their shape.
With 10xvid, paste your website or your App Store link into the chat. It reads the page and writes a blueprint: who the ad is for, the story in order, why they act, how it looks. Press Produce, and the film is drawn from your real screens in 9:16, 1:1 and 16:9, from 5 to 30 seconds.11 It does not make 4:5; LinkedIn takes the 1:1 and the 9:16 too.3
Where 10xvid fits
10xvid, motion graphics ads for apps, makes the short film a campaign runs, for software too. Every word is set as type over your real screens, in three shapes from one run. Every film is read frame by frame and judged at 8 of 10 before you see it.11 Your ad still has to make claims you can back: LinkedIn's policy is "Any claims in your ad must have factual support."12
The first ad is free, with no card: make your first ad.
